MANSFIELD ~ So positive and optimistic was Ed Irvin, that even his last words reflected his corny sense of humor: “wee wee wee, all the way home”

He was called to his eternal home Thursday evening October 29, 2009 from his brother’s Mansfield home. He was 61.

Born Edward Laurence Irvin on January 12, 1948 in Mansfield, to Richard Milton and Edna May (Castor) Irvin,  Ed was raised in Lexington, and was graduated from Lexington High School in 1966. He earned his master’s degree in chemical engineering from The University of Cincinnati in 1971.

Ed worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass as a chemical engineer, and was a pioneer fighting industrial pollutants. He later accepted a position in quality control with Meade, and more recently worked with Convergys in Cincinnati, where he served as a consultant to their human resources department ~ teaching quality communication skills to better the company’s customer service.

A former Blue Ash resident, he had been an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park, where he served as an elder and on the missions board. He was also active in the church’s IHN ~ Inter Hospitality Network ~ outreach and mission to Cincinnati’s homeless community.

Ed was a calming force, who merged his deep Christian faith and caring nature for humanity by serving actively with Posters for Peace ~ an extension of U.C. providing hope to people in crisis.

By nature of his vocation, Ed travel extensively…and enjoyed it. He liked free time in the Great Smokey Mountains, but his favorite destination was Singapore (“it’s so clean, and he liked the food”).

Ed could play Cribbage with the best of them, but “his game” was golf. He even had a hole-in-one, here in Mansfield at the Imperial Golf Course.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law William & Lori Irvin of Bothell, WA; his daughter and son-in-law Heather & John Irvin Hauser of Columbus; grandchildren Blayke Smith, Courtney Irvin, Jalen Irvin, Barrett Irvin Hauser, and future Irvin Hauser grandchild; his brother and sister-in-law David R. & Charla Irvin of Mansfield; his sister and brother-in-law Janet & Richard Oyster of Ashley; numerous nieces and nephews; an aunt Mary Castor Rose of Lexington; cherished friend Anne Wendling of Mansfield; and a large number of loving cousins.

His father passed away on November 12, 1984, and his mother on May 15, 2006.

The Irvin family will receive friends Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Linden Road Presbyterian Church, 160 S. Linden Road, Mansfield. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the church building. The Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti will officiate.  Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. The Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Irvin family.

Memorial contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Seattle (WA) Cancer Care Alliance may be made through the funeral home.
