The Arbor Day Foundation has named the city of Ontario a Tree City USA community for its commitment to urban forestry.

This marks the fifth year Ontario has earned the national designation. Ontario met four standards to become a Tree City USA, having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance or proclamation.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Services.

Lexington and Ashland also have earned Tree City USA distinctions this year.
