Ontario Substance Abuse Coordinator Veronica Cain's position will be cut back to part-time for the next school year.

The Board of Education Tuesday night approved the change in her contract, which had been funded on a 50-50 basis by the school district and the city of Ontario. But due to financial constraints, the city says they will be unable to contribute this year, so the schools will cut her hours to five and a half per day at 179 days of the year.

The city of Ontario only contributed one-third of her salary this school year with the school district picking up the other two-thirds. But they're cutting back to just 50 percent to reduce expenses and avoid deficit spending.
