Ontario City Council Thursday night voted 4-3 to table legislation to seek bids and award a contract for the Home Road lift station improvement project until January when the new administration takes office.

Councilman Paul Williams said the vote was purely political and not in the best interest of the citizens of Ontario who could face major problems if the lift station is not replaced soon.

Williams said electrical problems and lack of parts for the lift station could cause raw sewage overflows which will lead to the city being fined hundreds of thousands of dollars by the EPA.

Williams said the lift station is old and must be replaced. He said the city received a grant in 2008 for the project and he feels the city may lose the grant if it does not act soon on the project. Williams said council should be proactive instead of reactive.
