A pair of three-candidate mayoral races dominated the elections in Richland County.

In Shelby, incumbent Mayor Bill Freytag was on the ballot as a write-in candidate and was challenged by Marilyn John and Cohen Lewis, John has bested Lewis and it appears she has beaten Freytag as well and will be Shelby's new mayor.

In Ontario, Larry Collins will be succeeding current Mayor Ken Bender after defeating candidates David Metzger and James Hellinger.

The Madison schools bond issue for a new K-8 building went down to defeat, as did the bond issue to build a new police and courts facility in Shelby, but Ontario's safety forces levy has won.

John Scheureer, Jane McGinty and Pam Jones have seats on the Madison Board of Education.

David Spain and Homer Hutcheson were the leading vote getters for Madison Township Trustee.
