The Mansfield City Schools Board of Education named two new principals at the board's work session Tuesday.

The board hired former alternative school principal Brian Garverick on a three-year contract as the principal of Mansfield Senior High School. Current executive director of secondary education Stacey Cooper was hired on a two-year contract as principal at Malabar Middle School.

Supt. Dr. Lloyd Martin said the selection process of Garverick and Cooper allowed the administration and teachers to select the best person suited for the job. Martin said he's pleased with the selection of Garverick and Cooper.

In other business, the board heard a presentation from the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission about the need for new buildings in the district. Martin said the new facilities will offer state-of-the-art technology to all students. He said the community will decide if the schools are needed.

Martin also accepted the resignation of Prospect Elementary School Principal Monica Hubbard effective Aug.1. Hubbard accepted a principal position with the Mt. Gilead school district.
