Local mortgage consultants and realtors lobby Congress to approve the support for the Down Payment Assistance Bill H.R. 6694. ..
Local mortgage consultants, realtors and residents took to the streets Thursday in downtown Mansfield to lobby Congress to approve the Support for the down payment assistance bill H.R. 6694.

On July 30 President George Bush signed the Housing and Economic Recovery Act which eliminates down payment assistance for first time home buyers effective Oct. 1. Several members of Congress introduced H.R. 6694 to allow the program to continue a day later.

Rally organizers say passage of the bill is vital to the buckeye state and the nation.

AmeriDream Account Manager Doug Ereg says in the last 10 years more than 137,000 Ohioans used the down payment assistance program, the highest figures in the nation.

To show support for the bill Ohioans are encouraged to call the U.S. Capital switchboard at 1-888-802-1207. Ameridream, a nonprofit agency that promotes seller assistance payment programs organized the rally.
